52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Electric Lime

This was a tough color and I had to start prepping early. However, I do think that lime just gets a bad rap because this was one of the most fun color weeks I have had yet!  Next week is ecru, which is much less likely to cause retinal damage, so at least we have that to look forward to. In the meantime, shade your eyes and enjoy!

Spring Fever But No Spring

February is a month where those of us who live in the northern climes start looking forward to warmer weather—but it always turns out to be a bit precipitous. I try to break out the warmer-weather clothes, but then there is an inevitable cold snap that reminds me that winter is still in full force, and that the warmth and the greenness of springtime are not quite ready to make their appearance. So today I chose warm boots and a warm jacket, while wearing a pair of cut-off shorts in an attempt to show winter that I defy his dominance.

I love the texture on this jacket by L’Abel. All the textures flow seamlessly and the prim attachments are not—well, glaringly prim attachments!

I am absolutely in love with these boots from J’s. I am a huge J’s fan and own about everything in the store. These are a fairly new addition and I love the clog feel of them combined with the warm wool sock—which, incidentally, comes with a color change script. I think the bird likes them, too!

Moon Valley

A friend asked me to visit this cool sim with him today and was delighted by the beauty and extra-terrestrial feel of the place. I knew instantly it was a moment for yoga pants and bare feet, and a bit of meditation.

NASCAR

I was chatting with the lady at the checkout stand the other day and she was telling me how excited she was for the Daytona 500, and bummed that she would have to work during the race. I’d not have thought there was so much to say about it, but apparently people get very passionate about their car racing! She was hoping for a Jeff Gordon win, but alas, it was a crazy race and a relative newcomer took home the prize.

I don’t know why it should surprise me to see that there are a lot of racing-dedicated people in SL, as well, but it did! There are all kinds of places dedicated to the cars, the clothes, the racing, you name it!


I am not sure if my shorts are quite short enough to rival Daisy Dukes, but I can’t think of anything better for flag waving. And Gizza’s Tribal shirt with the flame detail definitely gets my engine running!

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Teal

This is probably one of my favorite colors in all the world and there are so many things that are teal—skies, the ocean, plants, and awesomely made clothes! Carnaval is coming up very soon, and when I saw this gorgeous Donna Flora hat I knew it had to be part of this week’s challenge as a way to get me into the mood for the festivities!

Another favorite of mine in teal is the Alkahi Dew in Gold Set by Mood. I found this at the last jewelry fair last year and still get a thrill whenever I put it on.

Last Period Study Hall

Last period is the hardest period to teach—particularly on Fridays and days before vacation. There’s just something about knowing that free time is near that kills any desire to hit the books. Make that study hall and you have a total and complete buzz kill. Invariably some students will show up late…

Fun @ Sascha’s

Sascha Frangilli had a ten-minute sale yesterday at her store for anyone wanting to pick up this beauty of a gown. It was definitely a bargain and quite a spectacle to see the mass teleportation that occurred during those ten minutes! Sascha’s designs are always so beautiful, and I think they are a bargain at regular price, since you usually get enough variety in each dress to make up about four different outfits. One day I will have to see just how many combinations are possible—but for today, just two:

For extra dramatic effect, I love the front deco attachment, which turns this into quite the avant-garde creation.

Of course it was a perfect gown to accessories with the Bauhinia Blakeana set from Alienbear. This set is to die for, but obviously needs a special dress in order to properly highlight it!

When the ten minutes were up there was a ten minute naked-wearing-high-heels-only run through the store, which unfortunately I had to miss! Happening place, though, right? Can’t wait to visit again! Make sure you are in the group so that you don’t miss out on Sascha’s wacky, wonderful events!

Under the Sea

Yesterday I went to one of my favorite places in SL—the Heart Reef Resort. Any of you who use primarily type-chat to communicate probably have run into the problem of typing while trying to direct your avatar in walking, riding, swimming, or doing any user-controlled activity in SL. The Heart Reef Resort has a large variety of automated tours for bike riding, swimming, walking and even donkey-riding—so you can type chat to your heart’s desire and also see beautiful sights along the way. It must be said that it is a gorgeous sim with beautiful attention to detail. Most of the automated tours  are designed for either one or two people so go on your own or with someone you love.  My favorites there are the underwater tours, or, if you have a swimming hud then just check out some of the lovely places to swim around and nice things to see:

There is a lot of swimwear in SL, and there is something for everyone, whether you want to bare it all or go for more subtlety. As a member of the subtlety-in-swimwear-sexiness party, I do have to say that the options for one-piece or even more modest two-piece swim suits are far less common, which makes it so exciting to find beautiful ones when you can. Decoy, however, gives you the option for both with the Sanrio bikini and halter set. You can cover up more…

and be confident that you are looking your most gorgeous as you swim by yourself, with your love, with turtles or whatever else you happen to find down there!

My Valentine

When my husband asked me what I wanted for Valentines Day I was at a bit of a loss, since we don’t generally go crazy on the purely commercial holidays. But I asked him to let me think about it for awhile. One of the historical representations of St. Valentine is of a priest who married couples on the sly under the rule of the Roman emperor Claudius II, and he was killed for doing so. Whether there is any truth to the story or not, I have to admire someone who takes a life-threatening risk for people who love each other and want to be together.  The hearts and flowers and general Valentine cheesiness are fun, and I certainly enjoy them (as you will see below!) But that’s the easy part. The hard thing is loving and and living day in and day out with our loved ones as imperfect people in an imperfect world. I finally pulled my husband aside and told him that he really makes every day Valentines Day for me, because thanks to him, every morning I wake up to a happy life. Thank you, my darling husband, my partner in SL and RL—I wouldn’t trade one day of my ten years with you for all the hearts and flowers in the world.

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Red

What an appropriate color for Valentine’s Day weekend, right? To tell you the truth, I have been waiting for a chance to blog this dress and am glad that it has finally come. Alas, some of my very favorite pieces come from Kunglers and this one is magnificent. I love the layers, love the texture, love the REDNESS! Since there is so much love going on with this dress, I thought it would be an approriate choice for this week’s color and love-fest.

New Release at Kunglers

Anytime there are new releases at Kunglers it is time to celebrate! I got a notecard about the new releases early this morning and ran straight over to see the new stuff. Relax

Another Friday and the end of another work week! I took this opportunity to visit a lovely place and relax for a bit. Lovers Island is new to me, and I was pleased to make the aquaintance of Kyra Reyer, the owner of the island. It is a great place to go relax by yourself, or to go with a special someone and enjoy the beautiful and quiet ambience.

 

When you want to relax it’s normal for us to go to our old favorites--in my case capris by Decoy with my tank from JANE and sweater from Mischief. The shoes are a new find—a fellow blogger turned me on to Nardcotix, who are having a big sale right now so check them out! And to suit my island hopping evening a floral pareo from Mimikri. Always reliable, Queue Marlowe delivers a low-key but sexy hairstyle for a relaxing weekend evening.

Midterm

All the snow days recently made giving, grading and posting my midterms somewhat of a nightmare this year, but finally those days are in the past. Only four short months until finals now!

One newish thing I have been trying out are the Jolie Mains from SLink. They are a VAST improvement on the system av hands and come with hand position options. The one downside I have noticed is that you can’t hold anything like a pen or a book  or anything that would attach to your hand, because, well, your hand is attached to your hand. I did try attaching to something else and then moving it but the results were less than satisfactory. Once SL comes up with ways to have multiple hand attachments this should work well. I have only tried this in V2 so this problem may have been tackled by someone already!

Midterms may be over, but I still have plenty of exams to grade! Better get on it!

There is always such a huge amount of hoopla surrounding the Super Bowl halftime show and even more so in recent years following the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. In the years since they have brought Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and Tom Petty to “keep it PG” at the half time show. Then people complained about that because the artists were too old. Ah, the fickle public. So this year they brought The Black Eyed Peas, who, while not my favorite group, are generally known for putting on a reliable show. And I think the people in the stadium in Dallas probably got a pretty good one. I was not thrilled with it, it was a little screamy and unmusical for my taste. I am a fan in particular of Fergie, who does have a great voice and does sing some great music, it just wasn’t there that night. However, she LOOKED great. So great in fact, I wondered if I could replicate her look in SL. What do you think? Gorgeous, right?
