Coastal Craze

When my husband got a job on the East Coast about six years ago, I was less than thrilled. I am a western girl at heart, I like my empty spaces, and there’s not a lot of that on the East Coast. The other thing that didn’t thrill me was the ocean. I liked it, but I liked being far enough away from it that it’s not a threat. I really haven’t done well at getting used to not being able to see very far around me, or at being around so many people. But I have learned to love living by the ocean. The sea is one of the only things that makes me relax (except for last weekend). So today I was lamenting the end of summer and beginning of classes and found a lovely sea-side location called Mahina Cove and I enjoyed strolling around and enjoying the sea-scape!

What A Mesh!

After a couple of days without power we are finally getting back up and running here on the East Coast. And just in time, too! Rebel Hope released a new mesh gown today—I am seriously loving me the mesh! This one is a lovely, flowing gown and fits like a second skin.

082911c

I felt the dress needed some pretty spectacular jewelry to go along with it and fortunately I had just the thing--the Precious Set from Lazuri. The colors can be changed to match whatever you are wearing—so today I obviously went with a lovely dark ruby. And I had so much fun playing with the different color options for the headpiece on my hair today, an elegant creation from Plume. Now there has got to be a ball somewhere that I am suitably dressed for!

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Liver

Okay, so this color sounds disgusting but is actually just a dark brown/grey. As I was thinking about it I was reminded of John Johnston, aka Jeremiah Johnson, aka Liver-Eating Johnson. My mother was a Native American studies major so I can’t claim this as my personal knowledge and would probably know nothing about it except for her!

Liver Eating Johnson. Now, this was a tough, American wild man. The legend surrounding this guy is pretty incredible, but the one that goes along with this week’s color is his vendetta against the Crow Indians. It is said that he ate the liver of every Crow he killed. More reliable historical sources indicate that this all came from a comment he made after killing a man, and that he never actually ate a human liver. Just remember to trust reliable sources, kids!

But look at his picture—I wouldn’t want to have gotten on his bad side, would you?

Yeah, I thought not.

So now you know what’s coming, and I think Bruce has finally had it with me on this one—he claims I am making him look like a serial killer. But seriously, this is one bad-ass mountain man, don’t-cha think???

For all you film fans, there is also the gorgeous Robert Redford, who played this character in the 1972 film Jeremiah Johnson. I am not opposed to watching him in any of his incarnations. Winking smile

And The Livin’ Is Easy

For the last week I’ve been rehearsing a production of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. It’s a rotten story, like most operas, but the music is ridiculously catchy and you can’t keep it out of your head. When I saw this dress I thought it was perfect for a slow summer day that Clara sings about at the beginning of the show and then Bess later reprises. In fact this could be a dress that one of those soloists might don for the performance itself!

I was a worried that I might make the dress look like one of those multi-colored popsicles, but the colors flow and I love the bright colored combination. To finish this look off  I chose a blue zircon set from Endra Graves and a relatively new long hairstyle from Kavar Cleanslate.

Don’t Mesh With Me

This dress reminded me of those side by side celebrity photos you see online with the title “Who wore it better?”  I am sure this dress will be in the feeds all over the place in the next couple of days so you will all get to answer that question! Although in all honesty, the whole idea of mesh is that you can look good in your dress no matter what your body type. In this photo I am just loving being able to take a long, purposeful stride without my legs poking through the fabric of my dress. And look, no waist seam, either! And Vincenca Rosca has a lovely set for the new cycle at Designer’s Circle and it went perfectly with the mesh tank dress, again from Jane. One thing I always love about VR’s work is that there are always color change options on the jewelry and the texture changes are smooth and always very high quality.

Meshing Around

Janie Marlowe released her first mesh clothing designs last night and so, intrigued, I headed over to check it out. What a wonderful step forward for SL Fashion! Fabric that fits the body, moves with the body, and doesn’t make random body parts stick out when you are sitting or walking or whatever. I see flowy skirts and naturally moving jewelry in the future! But for now, I am just loving looking at my bottom and not having it be split in half by the animation. See?

Not a bad posterior to begin with…

082411b

Now just look at that bottom! Just as is should be, no right angle bends where my bottom should be!!! And, I might add, nice boot cut leg bottoms with no prim attachments!

082411a

Even with a serious bent animation the fabric stretches naturally. Now where is that book I was reading?

082411c

There is a lovely variety of new mesh designs at Jane so get over there and check them out! You’ll be seeing more from me very soon, because I just can’t stay away!

MEMO TO ALL: If you do not have a mesh viewer then you will look like you are a can of sardines or something. Also any friends you have that are not using a mesh viewer will see you as a can of sardines. So make sure you are running V2 or Kristen’s and go have some fun!

Whimsical

Sapphire Teebrook recently released this new dress called Shakira. I went dancing in it one night and loved the flowy skirt. And it must be said that I got lots of compliments! I can’t decide whether I like the blue or the red better, but they are both equally magical. You shall all have to decide for me!

When Summer’s End Is Nighing

So here's an end of roaming
On eves when autumn nighs:
The ear too fondly listens
For summer's parting sighs,
And then the heart replies.

-A.E. Housman, Last Poems, XXXIX

082211a

This crisp and lovely jacket from PHILO pushed my mood even more firmly in the direction of the end of summer—the sea-like color, however, reminds me that the end has not come yet! And since I was thinking of things passed and things to come, I chose to wear Jamman’s Zodiac sign necklace. I show my own sign, Leo, here, but if I wanted to be an Aries or whatever the necklace includes all the signs of the zodiac.

The new cycle began today at the Designer’s Circle and I am wearing two of the new offerings today—first my pants from a new outfit called Dina from Crank Design, and my bag from the supremely talented JaneDark Miles at Beauty Code. The bag is available in black and white, for 5oL. I actually used the white version in a post a while back, you can see it here.

Paris Metro and Artistry

Paris Metro has released three new gowns in conjunction with the Wildflower Summer Sale. The gowns I am showing are not the sale gowns, you will find those marked throughout the store. First, the Universal Love Gown. This one is heaven for the girl who is in love with twinkles and sparkles, and the ultimate coolness is the revolving universe on the necklace and bracelet from Artistry by E. I couldn’t capture the revolving in the photo, but believe me. Cool. And magical, and fairytale….need I go on?

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Chartreuse

I have some people to thank today. First of all to Banjo Baily for coming up with a bottle of Chartreuse liqueur in about 12 hours flat. Anytime you need beautiful alcoholic beverage bottles, Banjo is your guy!

Second, to Bruce. Bruce didn’t expect to have to model this week, much less have to model twice. My second model fell through and Bruce had to be putting up with me yelling at him about his hair on two separate avis. Bruce is probably waiting for the day that I talk to him about something other than modeling for me, and sadly today was not the day. You are a true friend, Bruce. So without further ado you have Bruce 1 as Jay Gatsby on the left and Bruce 2 as Nick Carraway on the right. Alas, Daisy would not fit in the picture. Now this novel reference may bring up torturous tenth-grade English class memories for some of you, but set it aside for a moment and just appreciate the Chartreuse! Now I’ve never tried it, but apparently it is a very lovely and complicated liqueur to make. You can get a general idea about it here.

081911c

“Finally we came to Gatsby’s own apartment, a bedroom and a bath, and an Adam study, where we sat down and drank a glass of some Chartreuse he took from a cupboard in the wall.”

Zoe

I have to admit that when I saw this new release from Agnes Finney I had mixed feelings. One the one hand, it’s so adorable! The polka dots are so cheery and match my pearl earrings from Endra Graves. On the other hand, my first thought was, “what a cute outfit to wear back to school!” Whereupon I promptly decided I was crazy because it’s not time to go back to school yet, is it? Is it?!?!?

So instead I will go out for a lovely walk on this nice breezy summer day.

Not A Soul Around

There’s a lot of virtual space in SL. Many folks get to where the other folks are as fast as they can. Others have a few close friends. Still there are those who spend most of their time in SL alone. The isolationists would love this beautiful sim  by Naiman Broome, where I saw not one person from the moment I arrived until the moment I left.  A perfect place to wander around and enjoy the sand and waves. (There is a lot more than just plain sand there, I promise!)

Jamman is a fairly new jewelry designer on the grid and I like the originality and style of his designs. I look forward to seeing what he comes up with next!

Dark Lady

Black is not my favorite color but I do like it and sometimes you really are in the mood for it. Well today I was in the mood for it, and what’s more, AvaGardner Kungler made me fall in love with black via her new Raica dress and it was my favorite of all the colors available. Kia Goodliffe serendipitously released Jennifer, a medium long hairstyle that pairs perfectly with this stunning gown.

Small Changes

Sometimes it’s a bit much to make a big change in life, work, or whatever—even fashion!  It’s good in a place like SL that has so much variety to switch it up from time to time. Whether you tend to be a baby steps kind of person, as I definitely am when it comes to SL fashion, or someone who likes to radically change from day to day, there is a beauty about the variety and possibility that is out there. Today I am wearing a new shape from Beauty Code called Hailey, which is available for 70L at the Designers Circle this week. I like how it fills out my skin and softens my face. Also new today are new releases from Truth Hawks and Chris Lodenwald. This short hairstyle is adorable (and more importantly stays out of the way of the poofy ruffles on my top!)  My jewelry today is by the talented Endra Graves and somehow has every color I am wearing in it! And as always, I appreciate Ikon Innovia’s ability to create a life-like and light-spilling effect in his eye designs.

See? Change is good. I’ll just keep telling myself that.

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Jazzberry

This was not a tough week to come up with in concept, but in execution almost proved to be the unhinging of my mind. My friend Stewart (my color inspiration guru—don’t ya just wish you had one too?) mentioned a great jazz piece called Unsquare Dance by Dave Brubeck. Let’s just pretend that I and my friends are capable of playing such a tune! Check it out below!

I am in a somewhat musical jam myself, having about 15 pages of Brahms left to memorize  before Sunday, so my efforts this week were a bit rushed.

081311a

So yeah, the curtain LOOKED jazzberry until I actually punched in the code for a background color….oh, well.

Crank

In looking around for a dark, gothic-esque place to take photos today I stumbled upon the Orbis of Cruor sim. It didn’t look extremely dark but I liked the colors and textures. After awhile the sim owner, Aridis Inaka, asked if there was some reason I was just standing around for like half an hour, and so we laughed and got to talking. Like many sim owners, Aridis got a little tired of doing all the same thing on her sim and has been making some changes—although she does maintain one club that the most gothic of gothies would love. Today I am only showing a building as a backdrop, but stay tuned for more from this great sim!

Crank Design just released this cute outfit called Nora and as I was in the mood for a little something different, this fit the bill! I call this my sissy goth look, since to be hard core I would need streaks or black lipstick or far more piercings, and would need to be a lot whiter. Smile And finally, I found some gorgeous but slightly creepy jewelry from Yelka Crumb. I just can’t stop looking at it!
